Prospective Students
I am committed to training the next-generation computer architects. My research group has several openings for PhD students who are passionate about defining new computer architectures and systems to solve challenging computing problems.
Our Research
Computer Architecture: Parallel CPU, GPU, and xPU architectures for efficient general-purpose computing and domain-specific acceleration.
Interconnection Networks: Efficient interconnects and communication across on-chip, on-package, and distributed computing systems.
Machine Learning Systems: Scalable, efficient, and fault-tolerant training and inference for modern AI models.
I also welcome new ideas that connect these areas or explore emerging computing challenges through hardware–software co-design. See our publications for examples of recent work.
About Me
I am an Assistant Professor in the Microelectronics Thrust at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). Before joining HKUST(GZ), I was a Research Scientist at Alibaba DAMO Academy and a postdoctoral researcher at UC Santa Barbara. I received my Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 2020 and my B.Eng. from Zhejiang University in 2014. During my internships, I worked on memory controller design for Tesla’s Autopilot hardware and deep reinforcement learning for systems optimization at Baidu’s Silicon Valley AI Lab.
My research appears in leading computer architecture venues (ISCA, MICRO, HPCA, and ASPLOS) and machine learning and systems venues (ICML, ICLR, and MLSys). Our work introduced the Shortcut-connected Mixture-of-Experts (ScMoE) architecture, which has been adopted in Meituan’s 560B LongCat-Flash and 1.6T LongCat-2.0 large language models.
I received the Intel 2025 Outstanding Researcher Award and the 2019 Texas A&M University Dissertation Fellowship. Our work has received a ISQED 2026 Best Paper Award, a ISCA 2025 Distinguished Artifact Award, and a DATE 2022 Best Paper Nomination.
Advising Philosophy
-
The goal is to help students grow. My research group aims to provide a free atmosphere and equal opportunities for effective communication, mutual learning, and student growth.
-
Specializing the development plan for individual students according to their background, interests, and personality to achieve the best collaboration and chemistry.
-
My research group would provide students with opportunities for attending top conferences, overseas academic exchange experience, and industry internships.
Funding Support
Each PhD student would be supported with about 15k RMB per month. RA would also be supported.
